Clinical Value of the FoSOD
Denial of Extent:

A 4-item scale that measures attempts to minimize the amount or severity of deviant actions performed by the offender with regard to the index offense.
Denial of Intent:

An 8-item scale that measures a prevailing disposition to characterize one's abusive behavior as having been elicited by factors outside of one's own control or volition.

This scale consists of two subscales:

Due to Stress Reaction: a 3-item subscale that measures a tendency to attribute responsibility to impairments in judgment that resulted from some set of stressful circumstances.

Due to Mistake: a 5-item subscale that measures attempts to minimize one's intention to act abusively by attributing responsibility to situational contingencies or debilitating circumstances.

Assertion of Victim Desire:

A 5-item scale that measures a prevailing disposition to justify sexually abusive behavior by ascribing sexual interest or desire by the victim to participate in the abusive act.
